Kumu Nate Evans brings us his beautiful hula with grace and Aloha. His choreography and teaching of hula is truly spirit led and envelopes the mind, body, and spirit. Born and raised in Keaukaha, Hawaii, his hula roots began with his mother and Kumu Hula Kahoʻokele Crabbe. He also comes from a long line of musicians from his father and the Kalama family and has sung for halau in Japan and Singapore. He is now Kumu Hula for Hālau Nāpuaokaleimaoliola
Keliʻi Grace, director, cinematographer and editor, is often called a visual translator for his innate ability to bring to life the soul of story, imparting a feeling to each moment in a raw and authentic way. Shooting in a live, photojournalistic style, he blends technical knowledge with intuition, capturing the small details to reveal a story’s deeper meaning.
"Reverence" Film Synopsis:
Set in pre-contact Hawaiʻi, it tells the story of one warrior’s journey and his deep love for his chief. Based on moʻolelo of the final resting places of the great chiefs of Hawaiʻi, this film reflects a deep reverence for life. “We hope that this film helps to create a dialogue and sheds light on the deeper beauty and wisdom of Hawaiʻi…and that this feeling and energy of following the signs from the ʻāina (land) while filming, guided by our ancestors, inspires people to have reverence for all of life and to preserve these stories so they are not lost forever.”
